The process of repacking a wheel hub bearing is to remove all the parts of the wheel hub so the bearings can be cleaned by removing the old grease and replacing or ‘repacking’ new grease into the bearing.
Symptoms:
- humming noise
- wheel wobble
- uneven tire wear
- steering wheel vibration
Tools:
- jacks (mechanical or hydraulic)
- jack stands (at least 2)
- lug wrenches
- combination wrenches
- socket wrenches
- impact wrench (optional)
- screwdrivers
- hammer
- pliers
Materials:
- bearing grease
- bearing puller (optional)
- penetrating fluids
- clean rags
Procedures:
- remove the wheel
- remove the brake assembly
- remove suspension assembly
- remove the wheel hub
- pull out the bearing
- pack grease into the bearing
- reassemble the wheel hub
- reinstall the suspension assembly
- reinstall the brake assembly
- reinstall the wheel
- done
