Cleaning the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP Sensor)
February 8, 2023
The MAP sensor provides instant manifold pressure information to the engine’s electronic control unit. The data is used to calculate air density and determine the engine’s air mass flow rate, which in turn determines the required fuel delivery for perfect combustion.
SYMPTOMS:
- rough idle
- slow acceleration
- poor fuel economy
- strong smell of gas
- lack of power
- hesitation on acceleration
TOOL:
- screwdrivers
MATERIALS:
- cleaning solution
- masking tape
- clean rag
- gloves
- face shield
PROCEDURES:
- remove the socket
- remove the MAP sensor
- clean the MAP sensor
- let it dry for 20 to 30 minutes
- install the MAP sensor
- put the socket
- start the engine, there should be no check engine light
- done
