Cleaning the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve on your vehicle periodically helps keep carbon and other particles from building up on the valve, which can negatively affect the car’s operation.
The IACV’s job is to regulate the engine’s idle speed based on how much air is entering the engine.
SYMPTOMS:
- poor fuel economy
- engine won’t start
- unstable idle
- engine stalling
TOOL:
- 5 point screwdriver
- wrenches
- pliers
MATERIALS:
- contact cleaner
- clean rag
- gloves
- face shield
PROCEDURES:
- remove the IAC valve
- clean all of its parts with a contact cleaner
- let it dry for 10 to 15 minutes
- reinstall the cleaned IAC valve
- done
